RB Leipzig’s 4-1 win over Mainz on Saturday, was hard fought at Red Bull Arena. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Leipzig arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Arminia Bielefeld. Mainz were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Eintracht Frankfurt. As it stands, Leipzig and Mainz currently occupy 8th and 10th spots in the league, with 25 points and 24 points respectively after 18 matches.

Leipzig didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Andre Silva opening the rout at the 21 minute mark. The Red Bulls then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai just before half-time. The score at half time was 2-0.

The 05ers took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Lee Jae Sung at the 57 minute mark. However, Leipzig increased their lead 3-1 thanks to a goal from Christopher Nkunku in the 58th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Andre Silva made it 4-1, 60 minutes in to make it 4-1.

For Leipzig, Christopher Nkunku, Hugo Novoa, Joscha Wosz and Lars Sidney Raebiger, came on for Yussuf Poulsen, Andre Silva, Lukas Klostermann and Dominik Szoboszlai. Mainz replaced Leandro Martins, David Nemeth, Anderson Lucoqui, Matondo-Merveille Papela and Paul Nebel with Jean-Paul Boetius, Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Aaron Martin, Lee Jae Sung and Karim Onisiwo.

Leipzig will next play Stuttgart away, with Mainz facing Bochum at home.
